The great thing about this tip, which by the way I have used and continue to use to this day after losing 60lbs, is that it is not restrictive like a diet.

No one is telling you what you can and cannot eat, so the subconscious mind has nothing to rebel against, it simply adapts over a period of time to the new portion size because that is what your mind is designed to do, it's called the law of adaptivity and we are hard-wired for it.
